Get Outside and Ride a Bike During May

May is National Bike Month and the perfect time to showcase the many bike events in Harrisburg! Highlighted below are a few of the bike events that Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg is supporting, and we invite YOU to be there with us!

  • Kids Ride with The Mayor, Sat. May 13, 11:00 AM, Walnut St Bridge, Riverfront Park. Join Mayor Wanda Williams for a casual ride through Riverfront Park to celebrate National Bike Month, health and community. Light refreshments, fun safety information and meet the mayor!
  • Bicycle Fix-It, Sat. May 13, 10:00 AM-1:00 PM, Broad Street Market, Recycle Bicycle will do FREE bicycle repair while teaching applied physics and the importance of further education for our youth. Promote bicycle safety and more bicycle infrastructure.
  • International Ride of Silence, Wed. May 17, riders will meet at 6:30 PM at the US Marine Corps (USMC) parking lot located at 2995 Green Street and depart at 7:00 PM for the Capitol. Once there, all will recognize, in silence, all the cyclists who were injured or killed on Pennsylvania roadways. The Ride of Silence is held on the same day in hundreds of locations all over the world. For more information https://rideofsilence.org/
  • Bike to Work Week: May 15-19 – Ride your bike to work. Stop by Roxy’s Cafe at 3rd and North Streets in Harrisburg on Friday, May 19, to receive your “I Rode My Bike Today” sticker.   • Harrisburg Arts Festival, May 27-29, Riverfront Park. Valet bike parking provided, courtesy of Recycle Bicycle, at Front and Forster Streets, also Front and Walnut Streets. Bike to the festival and save $!

Remember!!

Wear a Helmet. Everyone should wear helmets. PA law requires kids under 12 to wear a helmet.

Stay Hydrated. Keep that water bottle close to you!

Be Seen. Wear brightly colored clothing and ride during daylight hours. If you must ride at night, wear reflective clothing and use lights.

Have Fun. Use pedal power to get outside and embrace the outdoors.
