Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg is run entirely by volunteers. Volunteers are the strength of our existence.
Whether bike mechanics, grant writers, number crunchers, or maintenance folks, these people have kept this organization alive and play a vital role in fulfilling our mission. Our diverse group of volunteers all share the same commitment of getting bikes to people who need them.
A Closer Look At Our 2023 YTD Volunteer Hours
Not every volunteer needs to be a mechanic. We have needs for volunteers to register bicycles, help individuals with simple requests and teach safety. We have a desperate need for volunteers who are bilingual, specifically Spanish and Arabic. There are even opportunities to work behind the scenes with fundraising, writing and outreach opportunities. We will train anyone; and welcome advice from experts.

How You Can Help
- Repair Bikes – Even if you don’t have any previous experience repairing bikes, we are happy to train you on what you need to know to build and repair bikes. While basic mechanical and bicycle repair skills are certainly helpful, neither is required.
- Recycle Bikes – More skilled at taking them apart, then putting them back together? We’ve got just the thing for you. Any bike that is donated to Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg, that can’t be repaired is taken apart by volunteers and we recycle any usable part to fix bikes.
- Community Events – If you’d rather work with people than pedals, you can volunteer to help out at the many community events that we attend. We provide bike parking for events; do bike giveaways at community days; conduct bicycle safety sessions and attend school fairs.
- Behind-The-Scenes – Some of our volunteers never even come into the shop. They help out by writing grant applications, designing newsletters, sending out mailings, processing donations and so much more. If this is something you’re interested in, let us know!
- Ride With Us – We love to ride bikes and participate many local parades, events and fund raisers. So saddle up and join us on our next adventure. See our calendar of events.
- Community Service – Just let us know if your church or community group would like to volunteer some time. There’s always a project waiting for groups willing to help out. We can also provide hours to people who are performing community service requirements.
