What do you enjoy most about Recycle Bicycle:
Serving the Harrisburg community by recycling, fixing up, and reusing an already environmentally friendly and low-cost mode of transportation to enable mobility and transportation for all… these are all things I love. Recycle Bicycle is a pillar of the bike community in Harrisburg, and my goal is to strengthen RBH, the bike community, and the community at-large through my energy and efforts.

Current job/position, community involvement & other pertinent adventures:
I am officially retired, and I work on occasional assignments for my previous employer (Quandel Energy Solutions) I am involved with justice reform, advocating for legislation on justice reform issues, and serve as treasurer for four other non-profits. I am helping to develop an affordable housing project in Harrisburg.
When did you join the RBH team:
I joined the RBH board in August 2025 as treasurer.
Current bicycle you are riding:
I am not riding regularly at this time. I own an old Orly (French) touring bike and a 1970s Schwinn 10-speed. Both have old gear and need to be refurbished before I ride again. Or I will donate these and look for a hybrid bike with a climbing gear (I live on top of South Mountain).
All-time favorite bicycle:
The Schwinn 10-speed was a favorite in college. I lived in Philadelphia, and the bike could handle the streets, keep up with traffic, and give me a good workout going to classes. It was easy to secure and not too fancy, so no one tried to take it (so far as I knew).
What do you enjoy most about Recycle Bicycle:
I enjoy how many dedicated people volunteer for the organization, and they align with the twin mission of valuing all bikes in some way and giving bikes away. I also love the goodwill that RBH has across South Central PA. Many people love the story of RBH and the actions we take, and financially support the vision and mission.

Bicycles, community advocacy, animals, coffee and a self-professed foodie are my top passions. Bike rides continue to reveal all of nature’s beauty, history, wildlife and new friendships! Meeting new people and sharing smiles, good food and laughter come with each day.
When did you join the RBH team:
August 2020
Current bicycle you are riding:
Trek 5000 TCT
What do you enjoy most about Recycle Bicycle:
It only took one step into the shop of Recycle Bicycle, where I was greeted by the friendly volunteers, that I felt like I discovered a new family. I was welcomed and encouraged to keep my interest for bicycling growing. At the time, I was new to bicycling and was intimidated by all things bike. Present day is the complete opposite – I embrace all things bike! Seeing the shop transform not only bicycles but the hearts of people by offering a mode of transportation for recreation and work is just fabulous! It is such an accomplishment to spur fellowship in the community and provide education about bicycle safety; and I constantly continue to learn on my own bicycle journey. Join me on a ride or at the next community event!

When did you join the RBH team:
It’s been over a decade since I started intermittently volunteering with RBH. This volunteering led me to work with Ross Willard who helped establish the Earn A Bike program for Lebanon county that works closely with the Rescue Mission, Jubilee post-prison program, Lebanon VA Medical Center’s transition program and more recently, we’ve reached out to the Lebanon branch of the Harrisburg Area Community College.
Current bicycle you are riding:
I’d have to say there are 3 bicycles I’m currently riding. Most commonly, I ride a foldable bike to and from work, which is about a 3-mile commute one-way. Most every weekend I ride a tandem with my wife on various rail trails. And when doing a longer solo or group trip, I did some bike camping on the C&O Canal trail in Maryland, I was riding an older Schwinn that I paid $10 for at a garage sale that I’ve set up for touring and light trails.
All-time favorite bicycle:
My wife and I have a hybrid Raleigh tandem that is SO comfortable (steel frame, geometry that works for us) and is fun to ride as we explore new rail-trails and seek out new places for brunch or lunch. This is “hands down” my favorite bicycle.
What do you enjoy most about Recycle Bicycle:
The rewards from Recycle bicycle are multiple. Putting used bikes to good use keeps these bikes out of the landfill, giving people a “hand up” as they often need transportation to/from work, providing an opportunity to show caring to the community and bringing together a wonderful group of volunteers who are committed to serving others. When you see a person ride away from RBH on a bicycle that they helped to build with a big smile on their face, it doesn’t get any better.

engaging with the guests who come for a bike and the wonderfully diverse community we live in. A close second is learning from and trading jabs with my mechanic colleagues.
