Since purchasing the property at 1722 Chestnut Street in October 2019, the building has undergone an amazing transformation. In one year, the building went from a possible disaster to a “recycled” space that will serve us well into the future.
We raised money from generous donors and received grants to replace an 80-year-old roof, remove mold, replace main entrance doors, installed ADA bathrooms, all new electrical, new LED lighting, new insulation, new drop ceiling and added the proper emergency lighting and signs. We could never have accomplished these renovations without the many volunteers who put in over 3,800 hours of hard work in 2020.
In October 2020 we received our Certificate of Occupancy from the city. It’s been awesome to have running water, heat, and working bathrooms! After almost 20 years of working out of buildings that did not have these amenities, we are certainly grateful for what we have now. Our new work environment is ideal for attracting new volunteers as well as being able to offer the community a safe and accessible place to come and find a bicycle.
Other than a few finishing touches, we are looking good and ready to serve!
