New Board Members
In 2019 Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg went to Leadership Harrisburg Area and asked for assistance in creating a strong board of directors. LHA was instrumental in helping establish criteria to recruit candidates who would lead RBH in long range strategic planning and financial stability. Even through the pandemic we worked with LHA to finalize our needs and begin our recruitment efforts.
By autumn of 2020 we had secured new members to our board of directors and are well on our way to sustaining the future of Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg.
Our returning board members are our founder, Ross Willard, Dr. Scott Shreve, and Jenifer Donnelly. Our new members are Jake Fulton, Rob Shoaff, Dr. John “Ski” Sygielski, and Basir Vincent. Each member brings a wealth of knowledge and excitement to the organization. There are plans for new programs, better shop management, and improved communication efforts. As we all slowly return to a new normal after this past year, the RBH board is excited to reach out to the community.

Building Community Programs
The volunteer committee is excited to be working with other local nonprofits to enhance Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg’s community impact. As our volunteer base grows RBH will be supporting several community organizations to promote local bike rides and build a community of riders. Anyone hosting rides should contact RBH and let us know so we can advertise and support. For example, Capital Rebirth, with Friends of Midtown, is hosting a Biker Club every week!
Another partnership is with the Young Professionals of Color (YPOC) Adopt a Classroom. This summer we will be connecting with the community, especially the youth, to provide bikes and teaching repair and maintenance. This will be tied into education about STEAM career pathways allowing students to understand how repairing bikes are foundational skills that connect to engineering and technology jobs of the future.
The more community connections we make the better. If you or your organization wants to help, please contact us!
